The ABWH 2007 Annual luncheon will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Hilton Charlotte University Place in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Luncheon Speaker is Dr. Wilma King , the Arvarh E. Strickland Distinguished Professor at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. Without question, her research has helped scholars and students at all levels reframe the experiences of free African American women before the 1865 emancipation.
Dr. King's books include The Essence of Liberty: Free Black Women During the Slave Era (2006); African American Childhoods : Historical Perspectives From Slavery to Civil Rights (2005); Children of the Emancipation (2000); Stolen Childhood: Slave Youth in Nineteenth-Century America (1995); Toward the Promised Land: From Uncle Tom's Cabin to the Onset of the Civil War, 1851-1861 (1995); We Specialize in the Wholly Impossible: A Reader in Black Women's History, edited with Darlene Clark Hine and Linda Reed (1995); and A Northern Woman in the Plantation South: Letters of Tryphena Blanche Holder Fox 1856-1876 (1993).
